Raphael is seen to be wearing working attire, dark robe and barely visible white top, his hairstyle is those typical of the court page of the renaissance and his hat is those seen to be worn by painters. The warm and deep tone colors chosen completes the reflection of serenity and peace, the painting is contoured by fine brush strokes. It’s a simple painting with a simple background where you can slightly see his shadow, Raphael does a great job of expressing balance within his self-portrait. This is a beautiful representation of the artist himself and we can see how Raphael viewed himself through his own eyes.
